In order to escape her dysfunctional foster mother and emotionally and physically abusive foster-grandmother, Erica seeks refuge at her school sports club. There she is found by her school coach Juri Kalmus who helps her take part in the local cycling race. A year later, Erika sets a speed record at the Pirita velodrome which draws the attention of the Soviet Estonian National Team coach Stanislav Solovjov.
